"John Adam Treutlen ... Georgia's First Constitutional Governor" will be the theme of the annual Labor Day Heritage Festival and Celebration at Ebenezer, Monday, September 3, 2012.

The speaker will be Richard Loper, Immediate Past President of Historical Effingham Society. His topic is "John Adam Treutlen, Georgia's First Constitutional Governor" and he will come dressed in costume as Treutlen, who was a leading citizen of early Ebenezer and Effingham County. Another feature on this year's program of events is the return of six old historic books to Ebenezer--old books from the colonial period and books that were owned primarily by the early pastors at Ebenezer. These books, currently held by Newberry College (SC), will be formally transferred to the GSS Museum and put on display for the first time in this era.

The Hinely Poster Contest theme is "John Adam Treutlen, Georgia's First Constitutional Governor." You may call the office at  912-754-7001 or email to gaslzbrgr@aol.com for additional information and Entry Form. Deadline for receiving entries ... August 22, 2012.

LUNCH ... Jerusalem Lutheran Church partnering with GSS will provide lunch at the church...a BBQ dinner (BBQ, string beans, potato salad, roll, pickles and iced tea) with desserts made by many of the congregation members. Cost of tickets is $10 in advance by calling 912-754-7001 (may leave your telephone # and name; we'll return your call ASAP) or may mail a check to 2966 Ebenezer Road, Rincon, GA 31326. You are welcome to stop by the church office to purchase tickets. Meal will be served from 11:30 am until all is gone. When meeting is over, please come to the social hall. There will be extras but it does not usually last long. If you prefer a lighter fare... the youth will also be serving Bratwurst on the grounds.

There will be outside activities (some added activities this year) including the Markt Platz with handmade items to sell, jellies, jams, pickles and fresh local produce along with native plants. AND THAT GOOD OLE TIMEY LEMONADE MADE IN THE BARREL!!
